11/13/09 - The National Association of Gay & Lesbian Real Estate Professionals celebrated our second annual meeting during the week of the National Association of Realtors convention in San Diego, California. The annual meeting was a complimentary dinner for NAGLREP members at Salvatore's, an excellent Italian restaurant in downtown San Diego. We were honored to begin the evening with Erik Weichelt (2009 President San Diego Realtor Association), and Mark Marquez (incoming 2010 President San Diego Realtor Association) welcoming NAGLREP to San Diego. In addition to sharing great food and drinks with our peers, we were joined by guest speaker Dick Gaylord (2008 NAR President & NAGLREP member). Dick discussed the future of NAGLREP, the importance of our involvement within NAR, and our goal to improve equal opportunity housing rights nationwide for the lgbt community. NAGLREP Director Todd Shipman also spoke to the group about member involvement within NAR. In addition, Char Glocke of the Wisconsin Realtor Association shared with us her experience earlier that day at the NAR Equal Opportunity-Cultural Diversity Committee, where she and Kevin King introduced the WRA's proposal to include sexual orientation as a protected class to the NAR Code of Ethics, and fair housing laws. We are thankful to NAGLREP member Eric Kodner for introducing the proposal to the WRA on our behalf. We would also like to thank NAGLREP member Jim Abbott for welcoming us into his home for an amazing after party. We look forward to our 3rd annual meeting during the 2010 NAR convention in New Orleans, LA.
