Good Hearts Produce Honest Actions
A NAGLREP social spotlight by Darla Michelsen
Anthony Cervoni is a Realtor serving West Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to real estate, his carreer was fundraising for non-profits in the art world and museums like the Mark Twain House. Motivated by his love of homes, in 2004 he got his real estate license and within 6 months was a top producer. Anthony connects strongly with the core values of his broker Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, a major contributor to the Sunshine Kids charity, which is near and dear to his heart.
Darla Michelsen: Anthony made quite an impression on me through his online presence and Facebook. He appeared to be a genuine and down to earth kind of person. I enjoyed having a chance to speak with him at the 2016 NAGLREP conference.
Darla Michelsen: What are some of the things you love about where you live and the market you serve?
Anthony Cervoni: I live in Connecticut which is a unique and small market between Boston and New York. I’m in the center of Hartford County where the market isn’t as active as ones closer to New York. But the great thing about the area is that you can be in New Haven, close to Yale - with all the shops and restaurants, and in a short time be in the country with farms and wineries!
DM: What makes for a successful Realtor?
AC: I think that not only do you need to follow the direction of the core values of the company you’re working for, but also to have your own core values that you represent to the people you serve. Honesty and commitment have guided my success.
DM: What’s one of the ways you market yourself?
AC: I’ve been in this business for 12 years and naturally have a handful of good campaigns, but the one I love best is a happy hour I created six years ago for the LGBT community. It's called “The Pink Drink Club"! We started with 10 local professionals and we now get over 200 people at our mixers!
DM: What value have you found in being a member of NAGLREP?
AC: The support of friends I've met through NAGLREP's conference, and ideas shared have been invaluable.
DM: What were your takeaways from the 2016 NAGLREP event?
AC: The last speaker Krisstina Wise was so special to me. Her presentation was about taking care of your body and to focus on taking care of yourself. A lot of people impress me with what they’re doing in their markets to drive business and get leads. I always come away with a whole notebook of things I want to implement for my own business. This was my 3rd NAGLREP event and I loved seeing all the people I made friends with that first year. I feel that we have a bond and they are friends and great referral partners. Lastly I learned that you must be a very confident person to be able to wear white!
DM: What are 3 things people wouldn’t know about you?
AC: I went to culinary school. I’m one of those annoying people who post pictures of my food on facebook. I used to be an EMT, and years later after leaving that, I had the opportunity to rescue someone from the bottom of a pool - saving a life!
DM: What types of things do you like to do in your free time?
AC: I love to cook and go to wineries. We come down to Florida as much as we can and go to the beach. We have a couple of properties here and a vacation home, so we spend as much time here as possible.
DM: Do you have a practice that helps you stay grounded and allows you to put the daily stress aside and focus on you?
AC: When I'm exercising with my trainer. For that time I don’t think about work and put my phone away. I also enjoy cooking and spending time at home with my husband.
DM: Are there any Charities you give your time and are passionate about?
AC: The Gay and Lesbian Health Collective is an organization close to my heart and I served on their Board of Directors for a few years. They have a strong emphasis on education, prevention and providing lifesaving drugs. I feel the new drugs have made a major difference in those lives which are so affected by AIDS.
DM: Is there something else you would like to share?
AC: I just formed a team in Connecticut, and I’m also expanding with another team in Fort Lauderdale! I’ll be serving both areas and moving to Florida!
Darla Michelsen: Anthony is a super nice person. He’s passionate about being a part of the NAGLREP community and attending the annual conference. He has a warm and easy going spirit and I enjoyed getting to know more about his background - serving the community and raising funds for lots of great causes. I’m sure he’s treasured by his friends, and an asset to those who work with him.
