UNITED STATES CONGRESSMAN DAVID CICILLINE WILL KEYNOTE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF GAY & LESBIAN REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS (NAGLREP) FIRST LGBT HOUSING POLICY SUMMIT
Former Obama White House LGBT Liason Gautam Raghavan Will Also Participate; NAGLREP Members to Visit with Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus
Jupiter, Fla. (February 16, 2017) - United States Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI), co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, will deliver the keynote address when the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP) holds its first LGBT Housing Policy Summit at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) headquarters on March 14 in Washington, D.C.
The NAGLREP LGBT Housing Policy Summit will bring together recognized LGBT and allied housing leaders, including those from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the National Association of REALTORS®, HRC and the LGBTQ Task Force.
The all-day event, which will conclude with a Capitol Hill visit to meet with the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, will focus on housing policy and equality issues including discussions on fair lending and fair housing.
“The Housing Policy Summit is an important step to ensure that Federal fair housing laws include LGBT protections and HUD continues to recognize the importance of LGBT concerns,” said NAGLREP Policy Committee Chair John Graff, who heads the John Graff Group in Los Angeles. “The LGBT community has made great strides in recent years. The word ‘home’ means so much to Americans and we must make sure that the LGBT community’s path to homeownership, community inclusion, rental opportunities and access to lending is never hindered.”
Congressman Cicilline is one of the six openly gay members of the United States House of Representatives and in his fourth term representing Rhode Island. Congressman Cicilline followed the Supreme Court’s 2015 landmark marriage equality decision by introducing the Equality Act with a goal of adding comprehensive anti-discrimination protections to the LGBT community in public accommodations, housing, employment, federal funding, education, credit and jury service.
Gautam Raghavan, now Vice President of Policy at the Gill Foundation after serving from 2011-2014 as President Obama’s liaison to the LGBT community, will also speak. He directed the White House’s outreach around major policy developments advancing LGBT equality, including President Obama’s support for marriage equality.
Wells Fargo Home Mortgage is the title sponsor of the NAGLREP LGBT Housing Policy Summit with additional support from Union Bank and Long and Foster Real Estate.
“Wells Fargo is proud to be the sponsor of the NAGLREP’s first LGBT Housing Policy Summit,” said Cerita Battles, SVP, head of Diverse Segments, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. “Wells Fargo has been a home lender for 160 years and as the nation’s leading residential mortgage lender, we understand how emotional the connection to a home is for Americans. We know that real estate agents are often the first point of contact for aspiring homeowners. Working with real estate groups like the NAGLREP is key in reaching and educating consumers about homeownership so they become sustainable homeowners."
Established in 2007, The National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals (NAGLREP) is a mission driven 501(c)(3) non profit organization with nearly 1,500 members.
